“A highlight for me, was the sense of ‘team’, and no question was stupid. If we got it wrong we’d just ask ‘Can we have some help?’ and you get shown again. Everything felt safe, there were lovely tutors, and meeting other participants was amazing. I loved everything, all of it.”
One of the most inspiring stories to come from our Sustaining a Legacy project is that of former volunteer, Sam.
In 2023, Sam joined the project with one clear goal: to try something new. After realising her role in banking no longer aligned with her values or ambitions—and encouraged by a friend already volunteering—she reached out and stepped into something completely different.
During her time on the project, Sam remained focused and quickly picked up a wide range of practical skills to support her goals.
But more importantly, she found her confidence and became part of a community that supported her, celebrated her progress, and stayed connected long after the project ended.
Recently, we caught up with Sam over coffee to hear how things have progressed since. From maintaining the relationships with fellow volunteers to a complete career change, here’s Sam’s story.
